A historical guided tour is always the best way to discover a city, its history and its architecture. Old Quebec is definitely a fascinating old city to discover... but Winter is cold. Colder than you could imagine.

For that reason, I made an itinerary adapted to the cold season : less windy spots, some warm breaks inside buildings (if open) and some secrets to keep you warm.

My Winter Walking Tour of Old Quebec is an introduction to local history and architecture, but it's Winter and therefore I'll focus a little bit on this season. Its impact on architecture, history and culture. You'll learn about New France, the Conquest, the American revolution, the evolution of the city, the French-Canadians & Anglo-Canadians, but also about the ice bridge and the Winter Carnaval for example.

Finally, you'll discover a quaint city where every street corner is a postcard.

Yes, you can enjoy a 2h walking tour in Old Quebec, from November to March, without losing a frozen toe, without frost bite.

NB : if you would like a tour in French, please contact me (Tours Accolade Quebec), I could add a tour in French. For Spanish, a colleague can provide a private tour.

Full instructions how to dress appropriately when you book.

Max. group size : 15 people

COVID warning: many buildings could be closed, tour could be 100% outdoor.

I'm a professional guide in Quebec City since several years. I mostly provide tailored private tours for American and Canadian travellers. I know Old Quebec like my pocket and I'm also able to guide in less known neighbourhoods like St Roch, St Jean Baptiste, Old Lévis or even in Old Lauzon.

Of course I still provide private tours and during the high season I schedule thematic tours (military history, women's history, off the beaten path).

I'm happy to work with some of the best tour guides in Quebec City. All my co-hosts are certified, passionate and skilled guides.

Marie-Pierre: former scout, she mostly provide private tours and enjoys photography. Ask her for the best spots to take pictures!

Pierre: from Old Lévis, he guides for years here. He has many fun stories to share and speaks Italian too!

आप कहाँ रहेंगे

We'll start INSIDE the Musée de la Civilisation, warm, charming and interesting place for an introduction.

After spending some time in Old Port, we'll go towards Petit Champlain, the quaintest neighbourhood of Quebec City.

We'll go to Upper Town. On the way, we'll see the Château Frontenac (outside only). In Upper Town, we'll discover the area between the Post Office and the Price building, maybe more depending on the itinerary of the day.

Xavier was an amazing guide, answering all our questions, totally customizing the tour based on our preferences, and even taking us on a requested detour to get a delicious local dessert... Beaver Tails (so good). We were the only people on the tour on this chilly Spring day, so we were extra pampered, learning so much about the history of QC and being shown the gorgeous architecture in the Old City. Would 10/10 recommend.

If you love to discover a city not only by the present facade, but by its story as a whole, you should take Xavier’s tour. Why women used to have, on average, 10 kids? Why the Museum of civilization has the shape that it has? How old was the youngest prisoner in Quebec’s prison, and what horrible crime he did? Xavier is going to teach you some history but he will also give you amazing tips on where you can eat very well, where you can party (after the pandemic), what unique experiences you can try. He is an amazing guide. He will make you fall in love with Quebec city!

Our tour with Xavier was a great way to start off our few days in Quebec City. He gave us a good overview of the history and a sense of place. Xavier is knowledgable and personable, we enjoyed our time with him. Covid and winter combined to make this a personal tour for two!

Xavier is an amazing guide who is extremely knowledgeable about Quebec City. His tour style is engaging and informative! There was a lot of history but not overwhelming at all. I would recommend booking a tour with him so you can walk though the city with a better understanding of the religion and political history of how Quebec City came about.

Xavier is a highly knowledgeable person who will guide you through milestones of French-Canadian history in an easy and engaging way! I appreciated him not packing the tour with a ton of dates and names, but instead focusing on the big picture and some fun, interesting details/facts. Xavier is passionate about the subject and ready to answer all your Quebec-related questions! Thanks to his calm yet exciting storytelling, friendliness, and kindness, I felt welcomed and comfortable. Highly recommend!
