Eretria, Thessalia Sterea Ellada, यूनान
Eretria is a town in Evia, Greece, facing the coast of Attica across the narrow South Evian (or Euboean) Gulf. It was an important Greek polis in the 6th/5th century BC, mentioned by many famous writers and actively involved in significant historical events (Wikipedia).
Our house is in a quiet and safe summer villa neighborhood. You have everything you need in close distance (less than 1 km), and still, you can enjoy your privacy, peace, and tranquility if you wish so.
Eretria is a cosmopolitan seaside resort with great ancient history. The main points of historical interest are the Archaeological Museum, the recently restored Ancient Theater, the Hellenistic baths, the Gymnasium, and the Acropolis of Ancient Eretria on the Kasteli Hill. The house has a splendid view to the Kastelli Hill from its front porch.
There are several beaches in and around the town. In less than 1 km from the house, you will find organized beach bars with sunbeds, lifeguard and amazing cocktails.
In the town of Eretria (5-7 min driving) the central beach near Eviana Hotel has lawn, easy access to the sea, ramps for people on a wheelchair, and plenty of space to play. If the wind brings waves from the side of the Eviana Hotel beach (former Perigiali), you can walk across the street to the beach that faces the port. If any of the two beach sides is windy, the other side will be calm. This is something unique you must see!
If you want to travel and visit the island, our favorite beach is Korasida, which faces the Aegean Sea. It only takes 45 minutes to get there, but it's worth it having splendid clear blue waters and usually waves to play. There are other beaches by the Aegean Sea (towards Kymi) that you must see. Mourteri, Kalamos (about an hour away from home) and others a bit further such as Kallianoi, Giannitsi, Limnionas, and Armirichi. There are also some magnificent beaches, but you will need a 4X4 vehicle to reach them such as Tsilaros, Thapsa, and Petaloi.
Eretria is at the center of the island. It takes two hours to go to the northern part (Lichadonisia) and two hours to get to Karystos. If you like driving, we recommend you go to both North and South. You will notice the different landscape and nature which makes this island unique. Evia is the second biggest island of Greece in the Aegean Sea, separated from the mainland by the Evian Gulf. It boasts fruitful valleys, forests, caves, gorges and magical shores with tranquility and charming fishing villages.
In Eretria, you can enjoy plenty of nice tavernas and restaurants with fresh fish, coffee shops, and bars. We promise to give you our recommendations in person.
The beach resort hotels of the area (some are five-star resorts and others are well organized properties), give you the opportunity of enjoying many activities such as watersports, diving, sailing, horse riding, dining by the pool, etc., only 6 minutes away.
Enjoy your walk in the alleys of the old city of Chalkida, the island's capital city with the crazy waters of the Evripos canal, visit the forest, taverns, and springs of Steni mountain village or swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean in the central and southern Evia.
Evia enjoys the privilege of vicinity to Athens, thus making the house an ideal starting point for daily visits to the capital city of Greece, without having to forego the pleasure of a holiday by the sea. On top, since Evia is in the middle of Greece with easy access to the Athens-Thessaloniki highway, you can plan a variety of excursions over Greece. The Acropolis, the famous Delphi - center of world and Mycenae is only 1.5-hour drive, Meteora a 2.5-hour drive, Mount Pelion a 4-hour drive, and Mount Olympus a 5-hour drive.
