Russell is a very short drive, or you can walk. It is one of the oldest places in NZ, and is also known as Kororareka. It was once known as the "Hell hole of the Pacific", but is now a beautiful and tranquil seaside village

Walks
This is a great nature trail, entirely set up by the Tapeka community. The entrance is just over Tapeka Road from the house, and along the walk there is information about native plants and creatures. A great one to do if you have kids.

This is a lovely walk up to the old Pa site, and gives amazing views over Tapeka and Russell. It's moderately challenging (I wouldn't take my elderly mum) but good for young kids and teenagers,

Kiwis! the Russell peninsula is a kiwi zone
You will often hear the kiwis calling at night when you stay in our house. Also, you may notice people with red head torches in our garden - don't be alarmed, our garden is a well known kiwi hangout.
