If you need takeaway coffee in the morning, Starbucks is convenient (celebrities are always being snapped in this branch). There are lots of little independent cafes on Englands Lane as well.

My friend used to live round the corner from here and this was his favourite restaurant. Delicious curries and charming service.

A great little cinema - shows art-house and mainstream films in a beautiful theatre, with comfortable sofas and a great range of wine/snacks.

This is a maze-like pub in a beautiful setting in Hampstead Village - up a staircase of winding streets. Very popular and gets full quite early.

There are lots of gastropubs in the area, but this is one of our favourites - good bar food downstairs, and a more formal restaurant upstairs. Much better than the Engineer further down the road.

Incredibly beautiful, rolling heathland which makes it feel as if you are in the countryside. Highlights: Stunning views from Parliament Hill, bathing ponds, woodland trails and Kenwood House.

Definitely worth a walk to the top of the hill for wonderful views over London. The little high street, Regents Park Road, has lots of shops and cafes too.

Ignore the dot on the map - this goes all the way from the East End to Little Venice. I'd get onto the canal at Camden Lock or Primrose Hill and head for Little Venice for an interesting London walk.
