Well the Guinness is always excellent here - and that's a rarity. There's almost always some live music. This is a famous place - a drinker where politicians shady sorts have long rubbed shoulders.

Take a seat next to Brendan and have a chat - say, about lighthouse painting and the like. Walk along the canal to Broombridge or Ashtown or even further and take the train back to Drumcondra

Like a UFO has landed in the middle of Dublin, it's the home of the GAA and well, you HAVE to see a match here. A HUGE stadium with a great atmosphere. There's also a museum here.

The grounds are open the public - so it's a nearby place for an evening stroll - and to see the only palace in Dublin(!)

For all of Ireland or simply the city center - a great convenient place to start your journey. - Connolly (city centre) at least every 30 mins (for connections to the DART system, and trains to Roslare or Belfast.) - Maynooth at least every 30 mins. - Direct connections towards Kildare. - Direct connections to Sligo most hours.

For food, groceries etc. I find the service here very good. The boss is great for a chat. This is sharp contrast to the nearby Spar - which I NEVER use (most unfriendly).

get here on a weekend and if the weather's clement everyone and his dog is out here picnicking. Well actually there are no dogs - which makes the whole thing a welcome contrast to other Dublin Parks. Only shame is that the place closes so early. Now, in Glasgow on the other hand... Great to walk on into the Glasnevin Cemetery (special gate which also closes too early)
