This is a Chinese restaurant very near to our apartment. I absolutely LOVE this place but it does get busy so I would advise to try and book if possible at all. It is a bit more pricey than average Chinese but it so worth it. I would say the average main circa 16/17€).

This is a nice little Thai restaurant in the Beacon Hotel right next to the apartment. The restaurant does an early bird deal Mon-Sun from 5-7pm that gives us a starter and main for €20. The hotel also has a lovely bar that does bar food and cocktails. The food is nice and reasonable enough but the drinks can be a bit pricey especially the cocktails.

If you want to venture a bit further a field and try something different I would recommend this floating canal French restaurant. Ok, now I may be biased because we got engaged on this but I had a wonderful experience aside from that. If you get one of those elusive good days in Ireland, you can sit atop the canal boat sipping some lovely wine and once you take off the service is brilliant, the food was lovely and the whole experience was great seeing how the lock and key works in the canal. Now if the French food isn’t your cup of tea there are a couple of other floating restaurants in the same vicinity that may be up your alley.

If you like lots of meat this is your kinda place, large portions and reasonable price. It is slightly off the beaten track but worth it. Your best way of getting there is to get off at the Harcourt Luas stop and walk from there. You cannot make a reservations (or at least the last time I was there you couldn't) so try and get there early as it is popular and you may have to wait.

This is my favourite Burger joint in Dublin. There have a large selection on the menu, do some awesome fries but you can also build your own burger! Just head to the build your own burger page on the menu and start ticking! Delish!! It is just at the bottom of Grafton Street and take a left. They also do not take reservations but you are never waiting long so ask if you can sit at the bar and have a drink while you wait.

Fab little boat bar and restaurant, perfect for a sunny day to have a drink and nibbles on deck. They have one of the best hot sauce chicken wings in Dublin in my opinion! Its a little bit of a walk up from O'Connell street but you can hop on the red line Luas if you don't fancy the stroll.

This is a lovely traditional Irish bar, it is lessy touristy then Temple Bar (which you should visit but beware the drinks are very expensive and I would advise only the one!). At certain times this bar will have live traditional irish music and if your lucky an impromptu local sing song. They also do a lovely pint of Guinness.

Entertainment & Activities

Being in the home of Guinness, a trip to Dublin isn't complete without a trip to the Guinness Storehouse. Although the tour is self guided and many parts are just about the brewing process, there are also interactive activities nearer the top and the chance to pour your own pint and get a certificate to prove it! You can then bring the pint you poured up to the Gravity Bar on the 7th Floor for fantastic views of Dublin. Gunniess isn't really your drink of choice, no worries, instead of pouring your own pint, you can use you free drink instead to get a pale ale beer or soft drink up in the Gravity bar.

Although I am by no means a history lover, I loved this tour. The guides are very informative and the building screams out with history and stories. It was the Jail in which many of the leaders of the easter rising in 1916 were executed in. I advise to please book in advance online if you wish to visit as this is one of Dublin's most popular tours, especially given this is the 1916 centenary year. It is also very reasonable at €7 online rate or €8 walk up rate.

Us Irish are very passionate about our national games which include Gaelic Football and Hurling. Both of these sports are played country wide and many of the more important games are played in Ireland's largest stadium, (in which only these sports are played) Croke Park. If you are lucky enough to be in town while a game in on I would definitely recommend going to a game to soak up the atmosphere. Hurling in particular is the world fastest game on grass. If there are no games on while you are here but are interested in learning more about the culture of the games and the historical importance of Croke Park (during Bloody Sunday), then you can go on a tour of the stadium or do the Skyline tour which brings you up onto the rooftop of the stadium with views over Dublin.

This is by far my favourite little walking trail. On a good clear day, it has unbeatable views over the whole of Dublin and parts of Wicklow and is right down by Killiney beach. The whole trek takes you up Killiney hill and down onto the beach. It is not a very strenuous hike and you can make it as short or long as you like. Getting there from town: take the Dart rail line (heading for Bray) which goes all the way out from town along the coast and get off at Killiney Dart Station. Getting there from our apartment: There is no direct route other than by car or taxi (10 min drive) but you can get the 114 bus to Blackrock Dart Station (which leaves around the corner opposite the Microsoft Building) and then in Blackrock get the Dart rail to Killiney. The bus drivers in Dublin are generally very helpful so just ask if you have any questions.

After the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty in December 1921, the Castle was handed over from the English Government to the newly formed Irish Provisional Government led by Michael Collins. It is now used by the Irish government to host State functions and a free tour can be taken of the grounds but entry into the building is only by guided tour.

This is a neoclassical 18th-century building in Dublin which was used for collecting custom duties at Dublin Port. As Dublin Port moved further out from the city centre it became obsolete and is now used by the Irish Department of Environment. It was used during the Irish War of Independence in 1921 with the Irish Republican Army burning down parts of building in an attempt to disrupt British rule in Ireland. This did not work however as many Irish Soldiers were captured during the attack and brought to Kilmainham Goal.

The GPO is Ireland's Post Office Headquarters and the last of the great Georgian Buildings to be built in Dublin back in 1814. It was vital during the Irish War of Independence as it served as the headquarters of the uprising's leaders. If you go close up to the main columns at the front of the building you can actually see the bullet holes in the columns from 1916 Easter rising where Irish rebels where under attack from British soldiers.

This bridge was built over 200 years ago in order to transport people from one side of the Liffey to the other when the ferries had fallen into bad condition. The builder charged people a Ha'penny (half a pence) toll to cross the bridge leading to its name. In recent years Dublin City council have had to remove a number of love locks from the bridge for structural reasons and have asked people to refrain from putting such locks on the bridge.
