The National museum provide some valuable insights into some aspects of Nigeria's history, customs and traditions. You would need to pay an entry fee (N500). Do note that you are not allowed to take pictures within the museum. You do not need a guide as most of the works on display have small information board with details about the item. The main attractions at the museum are the galleries dedicated to brasses from Benin City, Nok Terracottas etc and a museum with the bullet ridden car in which the late General Murtala Mohammed was killed. Another gallery dedicated to traditional symbols of power contains carved ivory and a royal host of crowns. The museum has a small crafts village with woodcarvings and other handicrafts for sale at fixed prices; you might also see a demonstration of adire–cloth-making from Abeokuta.
